Every magazine serves a purpose. So it is with this magazine. Although we didn't openly decleare our purpose in our first issue, I guess our readers must have understood. Still, I will try to put our purpose into words: This magazine is being published to revive the Grand Bazaar culture and carry it into the future; to enable it find the place it deserves to be, namely a universal cultural center; to replace the
corner stones which have been lost in the past. I think in this second issue you will be able to see this declaration in a more concrete way. Have a look at the articles of Architect Yılmaz Kuyumcu and Archeologist Nezih Başgelen. You will see that they shout out the same words. Or read Burçak Evren's summary of European travellers accounts of the Grand Bazaar. Or read Prof. Şevket Pamuk's analysis of the trade guilds in general which actually reflect the formation of the Bazaar. Or Emin Nedret Işli's records of the 1954 fire at the Bazaar. You will see only one thing in each article: Sign posts which show the way to the mistakes which must not be repeated and to the true solutions which are now so
necessary.Follow those road signs. We stubbornly will put up more sign posts and will carry on doing so. I wish you all a merry Grand Bazaar.
